Indian Embroidery classes
Zardosi, an exquisite traditional gold embroidery of Persian origin, has long been practiced in India. This intricate craft is often used to adorn ceremonial garments, accessories, and interior textiles. The Aari technique, closely linked to gold embroidery, involves the use of a hook shaped needle to create delicate and complex designs, adding an additional layer of finesse to this already elaborate art form.
Indian embroidery, celebrated for its rich history and elaborate techniques, continues to captivate the Western world. This ancient art form is exemplified in masterpieces such as Lady Mary Curzon’s coronation gown- the renowned Peacock Dress, crafted by Indian artisans under the direction of Jean-Philippe Worth in 1902. The embroidered fabric was sent to the House of Worth in Paris, where it was transformed into a two-piece dress, elevated to a work of art. The intricate gold peacock feathers embroidered on the gown symbolized both opulence and a beautiful fusion of cultures.

Shikha, a master embroiderer offers a unique opportunity in Paris to explore ancient embroidery techniques. The workshop also includes courses on techniques like Kantha, Kutch, Phulkari, and Chikankari, each celebrated for its unique characteristics and cultural heritage. These methods, recognized by modern designers, enable participants to develop distinctive skills while appreciating the deep traditions of Indian craftsmanship.
